These are mittens that you can customize to each recipient’s unique, asymmetrical hand. A novel construction also lets you mix-and-match colours and stash-bust to your heart’s content!

A bottom-up cuff turns into short row wedges on the bias, ending with a sideways closure and thumb. Since the length of each stage is tailored to the hand measurements of the recipient, knitters can work with any yarn/needle combination of their choice.

Total customization depends on having these measurements…

• palm circumference (without thumb)
• length from wrist to tip of pinky finger
• length from wrist to tip of middle finger
• thumb circumference
• length of thumb from crook to tip

…but instructions also include generic measurements for 2-4yo, 4-6yo, 6-8yo, 9+, adult medium and adult large.

Yardage will depend on size, yarn weight and needle choices but should be no different from any comparable striped mitten. See different project notes for rough estimates.
