Synchestra Cardigan
The Synchestra cardigan is perfect for the inbetween seasons where a thin layer of warm wool goes a long way. It looks great with skirts as well as trousers, and the body and sleeve length is easy to modify to suit the recipient. The lace and cable pattern is intuitive and memorisable, and the cardigan assembles itself as you knit. Altough the Synchestra cardigan has a set-in-sleeve silhouette, you actually join the sleeves and body together in the round, with steeks so you can work all the parts simultaneously.

Yarn
Rauma Finull PT2 (100% Norwegian wool, 175 m / 191 yds, 50 g)
Alternatives: Hillesvåg Ask, Vilje or Sølje, Sandnes Tove, Navia Duo, Rauwerk Sport, Tukuwool Fingering, etc.
Get the best result with sport-fingering weight non-superwash woollen spun sheep wool yarn. The gauge is relatively loose for the recommended yarn, to get a light fabric. So avoid substituting for a much finer yarn.
Amounts: (840, 900, 963, 1045, 1105) (1180, 1246, 1308, 1393, 1438) m / (919, 984, 1053, 1142, 1208) (1291, 1362, 1431, 1523, 1527) yds.
Needles
Two sets of circular gauge-size needles for body and sleeves, and 1/2 mm below gauge-size needles for cuff, neckline and button bands.
The sample was made using 4.5 mm (US 7) and 4 mm (US 6), though I suspect most will use 4 mm (US 6) and 3.5 (US 4).
Gauge
20 sts x 30 rnds = 10 cm / 4” in stockinette stitch.

(1, 2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9, 10)
To fit bust (81, 89, 97, 105, 113) (121, 129, 137, 145, 153) cm / (32, 35, 38, 41, 44) (48, 51, 54, 57, 60)”.
To be worn with 0-5cm /0-2” positive ease. Choose a size that is 0-5cm /0-2” greater than the bust measurement of the recipient.
The sample is knit in size 6.
Notions
6 removable stitch markers
8 buttons (20 mm / 0.8” diameter)
A crochet hook about the same size as your below gauge-size needles.
Construction
This cardigan has a classic set-in-sleeve fit, although it’s worked seamlessly* in the round. Once you have worked each sleeve and the body bottom-up, you work them concurrently in the round. The decreases are placed so you get a set-in-sleeve silhouette.
There is a steek for the front of the cardigan, for the neck, and two small ones for the top of the shoulders. This is where you will find two small seams that will need grafting, as well as the underarm.
