Superheroes Don't Need Pants
Superheroes is a shawl designed for two yarns of different weight and provide an excellent way to play with different colorways: Same colorway on two different bases? Variegated worsted weight with a semi-solid fingering weight? Two contrasting solids? A scrappy shawl made up of mini-skeins? The choice is yours and the possibilities nearly endless.
The solid textured sections are knit in a worsted or aran weight yarn while the lace sections are knit in a fingering weight yarn. All increases are worked in the textured sections.
Materials
• 1 skein McClellan Fingering or other fingering weight yarn
• 1-2 skeins Wexford Merino Silk. Sample shown used all but 6 inches of an average skein of Wexford.
• US Size 8 needle (5 mm)
• Blocking supplies as desired
• Tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends
• 8 stitch markers; more if desired
Yardages/Weights in Sample
While every knitter’s gauge is different and each knitter will use a different amount of yarn, I have included the amount I used for each section in the sample for those who are thinking of creating this shawl out of scrap yarn or mini-skein sets.
