SUPER BULKY FRAGILISTIC EXPIALIDOCIOUS:
A super quick knit wrap in super bulky yarn. I designed it to highlight the beauty of Freia’s gradients (on which I have a huge FIBER CRUSH). I also tried it in a SW slightly lighter yarn & the test knitters have worked it up brilliantly with other yarns as well (including Malabrigo Rasta, and Morehouse Merino MOREino Super Bulky).
YARN:
The wrap is designed to be made in Super Bulky Yarn. One ‘problem’ with Super Bulky Yarn is that the weight is not very consistent from brand to brand. I would suggest closely matching fiber, weight and yardage when considering substituting. Since the piece is not fitted and could be made lighter or looser, there is some leeway in materials. However, if you want your project to look just like my versions, please use the same yarn(s) I did.
NEEDLES:
My testers and I found that a 60” sized US-17 / 12.0- mm needle really fit the whole project well
at the bottom (widest part) without squashing it too much on the needles. I knit tightly and used ALL my yarn. You may require more (or less) yarn. Gauge is in Freia garment after blocking.
SIZES:
The shawl & collar are one size, but they should generously fit most sized people. On me, a US sized M/L, there is substantial overlap in the front.
The piece was knit in 2 sizes, one with one skein (150g. / 87 yds). The second with two (300g. / 174) shown above.
FREIA COLLAR- Knitted piece is 9” long at the points, about 20” across at the widest.
FREIA WRAP- Knitted piece is 15” long at the points, about 32” across at the widest.
NOTIONS:
I only used a needle to tuck in the ends, and scissors to snip them. You could use markers but finding large markers can be hard. A Shawl pin, button for some form of closure may be desired, buttons can utilize yo’s as buttonholes.
