If you feel like, try something when knitting this shawl: just be in the here and now. Focus on the pleasure of feeling the yarn sliding through your fingers, the beauty of colours, the satisfaction of movement in itself. For me, the effect of experiencing this reality is so strong and satisfactory that I call it sudden bliss. That is the bliss of being in the moment. If you “knit this experience into” the fabric of the shawl, when worn it can serve as a reminder to return to the here and now when walking or eating, or cooking.

Sudden Bliss is the third pattern from the Moment Catchers e-book. The e-book includes six shawl patterns in total, all designed to catch the most precious experiences.

The shawl is an asymmetric triangle worked sideways in one piece. Most of the shawl is knit in two colour brioche stitch, while for the edging a traditional lace is worked over fewer stitches with larger needles. Applied I-cord is worked along two edges of the shawl for a perfect finish. Instructions are provided for making a regular sized shawl that is worked either from lace or fingering weight yarn. You can easily make the shawl larger or smaller using the included instructions.

For information about sizes, measurements and yarn requirements please check the second page of the pattern located among the photos on the left.

The pattern is fully charted and includes line-by-line written instructions. Previous experience with knitting brioche is useful. You can work a small swatch representing the entire shawl to try the stitches and techniques used.

I asked test knitters what they would like to tell about the pattern and the finished cowl to other knitters and here are some of their answers:

klementine: This is a really, really nice pattern, well written. Don’t be afraid if you haven’t before knitted in two-colour brioche technique! That’s why making the recommend swatch in a form of the shawl was very useful. Once you get used to those stitches, it’s relaxing and meditative knitting. And the result is worth that effort!

Novelpurler: Knitting brioche lace was intimidating at first, but working the swatch was a confidence booster. Working the pattern was immersive, and I looked forward to working on it in the evenings—the leaves and lace flowed beautifully with the gradient colors.

echeverialaui: This shawl is so beautiful yet intricate looking, if I hadn’t knit it, I would never believe how easy and relaxing knitting two-colour brioche is.
Do not forget to slip in a lifeline every now and again, better be safe than sorry!

Vaida: This shawl is a perfect possibility to try not only simple two-colour brioche, but also some lace brioche! Just breathe deeply and “read” your knitting.

hofi: This shawl is absolutely beautiful and fun to knit.
