Studio Sweater
Are you a new knitter looking for an easy first sweater project? Or an experienced crafter in search of a well fitting, simple project to relax with? Whatever your knitting goals, the Studio Sweater combines the joy of top-down, seamless construction – simply cast on and go. With its clean design lines, the Studio Sweater allows you to let a special yarn shine, embracing minimalism, or treat the pattern as a framework for adding your own creative flair.
The Studio Sweater is worked from the top-down, beginning with the deep ribbed neckband. You’ll work concentric rings of increases to form the circular yoke, followed by short rows to gently lower the front neck for a comfortable fit. The yoke is worked with raglan increases at four points, for a neater fit around the underarm before separating the body and sleeves and knitting each in the round. Optional cup shaping plus regular and tall lengths are built into the pattern, leaving you to just focus on the knitting. As with all Ysolda patterns, enjoy inclusive sizing and all gender fit options. Knit in DK or worsted weight yarn, the popular gauge makes substituting from your stash, or within a budget, easy.
Yarn
DK or light worsted weight yarn. Wool blends are ideal.
Shown in World of Wool Distilled DK (50% Shetland wool, 50% tweed blend, 98 yds / 90m, 1.75oz / 50g) in Chaser.
Gauge
20 sts & 28 rnds = 4” / 10 cm in the round on larger needles
Use the needle size you need to get gauge, the ribbing needle should be 2 sizes smaller than the main needle.
Notions
2 colours or styles of stitch markers, scrap yarn for putting sts on hold
Needles
Size 4 US / 3.5mm 16” / 40cm and 32” / 80cm circulars
Size 6 US / 4mm 16” / 40cm, 24” / 60cm, 32” / 80cm circulars
Size 6 US / 4mm dpns or circulars for your preferred method of working small circumferences in the rnd
Note: the top down yoke requires different needle lengths as the increases are worked, if you don’t have every length available it could be worked on magic loop until the stitches fit comfortably around the longer needle. For the largest sizes, if you don’t like your stitches being squashed on the needles, you might want to add a fourth length towards the end of the yoke.
Sizing
12 sizes to fit bust/chest measurements from 30” to 73” / 70cm to 183cm with 4 options for bust shaping— A/B (no shaping), C/D, E/F, G/H
Download the Studio Sweater pdf for body measurements, schematic, and garment measurements.
Shown in size 3 with no added bust shaping and approximately 5” / 12.5cm of ease at the high bust.
