Taking its name from the abbreviation for stockinette stitch, the STST Wrap lives up to its name with lots of stockinette stich for a relaxing knit that’s perfect for chatting, TV knitting, or to take on the go.
The pattern was designed to use “advent/countdown” sets with 24 fingering/sock-weight mini-skeins, but there are also instructions for using a different number of colors or a single color.

The STST Wrap can be worn as a long rectangle to encircle yourself with coziness, but it can also be folded in half and partially buttoned, providing a variety of styling options (see pictures): The buttoned portion can be draped over a shoulder, in front, or in back.

The perfect lightweight layer to take to an over-air-conditioned restaurant or an outdoor event as the sun goes down, the wrap can be black-dress elegant or blue-jeans casual, depending on your yarn choices.

This pattern has been tech edited and test knitted.

Difficulty: Beginner. Stitches used: knit, purl, yarn over, k2tog.

Size: The wrap, when laid flat, is approximately 18”/ 45 cm wide x 68”/ 170 cm long. When folded in half and buttoned, the buttoned portion is approximately 18”/ 45 cm and the head opening approximately 16”/ 40 cm.

Yarn quantity: To make the wrap as shown in the sample, you will need 24 mini-skeins of fingering/sock yarn, 20 grams each, as in an “advent mini set” or “countdown set.” You will use approximately 14 grams of each mini-skein. The sample was worked with Jilly and Kiddles “Mix Tape Minis” countdown set.

The pattern also includes separate instructions for knitters using a different number of colors, or you can work the whole wrap in a single color.

Regardless of the number of colors used, total yarn usage will be approximately 290 – 330 grams/1275 – 1440 yards/1160 – 1320 meters.

Yarn selection: The more similar your yarns are in color from one to the next, the more “blendy” your wrap will look, particularly if the yarns are tonal or speckled. Yarns that are more distinct in color from one to the next, especially if they are not tonal or speckled, will create a more stripey appearance where the colors transition. Both ways work! Check out the project page for examples.

Gauge: 28 sts and 36 rows to 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch, unblocked. Gauge is not tremendously important, but if your gauge differs, the finished size and yarn usage may vary.

Needles: US 3/ 3.25 mm needle, or size to obtain gauge. This wrap is worked flat.

Other tools/ notions:
10 buttons, 1/2” size
Yarn needle to weave in ends.

Knitter support: Designer email is included in the pattern in case you have questions.
