1940s Stripey Jumper
’Moss Stitch stripes with multi-coloured buttons’

The cardigan has multi-coloured buttons and a round, crew, neck. It has short sleeves and horizontal stripes in contrasting shades. The zig zags are embroidered on to the cardigan in ‘herringbone stitch’.

Measurements:
To fit size 32-34” bust
Length from top of shoulders 19 inches
Sleeve seam 5 inches

Materials:
3ozs Patons Beehive Fingering 3-ply and 3ozs in a contrasting shade of the same wool. A modern, although not a fine, 3-ply (3-ply usually sold on a cone for machine-knitting) or perhaps a fine 4-ply (a wool mix with one of the finer yarns like cashmere or silk) may also be able to be used instead. Check with a tension square and adjust needle size if necessary.
Small amounts of different coloured wool for embroidered zig zags
A pair of 3.75mm (No. 9) knitting needles
A medium-sized crochet hook
Ten buttons
Cotton wool (optional) for shoulder pads (instructions are given on how to knit shoulder pads and add them to the jumper)

Tension stated in the pattern is 7.5 stitches to an inch
