Today’s modern sociopath deserves a straitjacket that is as attractive as she is. This collarless body-hugging raglan pullover has extralong sleeves that cross in front and clink together with spring-clip hardware in back. The sleeves feature dropped-stitch ladders that show off both skin and yarn texture and delight with their get-nervous vibe. The shaping comes from side ribs, not increases and decreases, thus making the style equally suitable for a man (though the sleeve ladders do demand a daring man). I’ve used bruise-colored thick-and-thin faux-handspun wool. If you’re a traditionalist, use a cotton or cotton-blend yarn instead. Try 10 (12, 14, 16) balls Reynolds Cabana (100g; 135yd/123m; 65% cotton, 35% acrylic) in 904 natural, doubled, for a refined finish, or 2 (3, 3, 4) skeins Henry’s Attic Inca Cotton (8oz; 325 yd; 100% organic cotton), doubled, for a more rustic look. And if you think Lunatic Asylum chic is totally last year, you can knit it civilian, with shorter sleeves and no tell-tale hardware.
