Stimson
Note that the new version of this pattern went out to patreon members for the January pattern, so if you join the patreon in January you’ll get this plus other fun patreon stuff!!
This pattern was redone as a solo pdf in January 2026.
These versatile mitts can be folded down and worn as fingerless gloves, either loose or buttoned down, or can be fastened closed at the top, loosely or snugly, to be worn as warm full (ish) mittens. The thumbs are open, but are long enough to cover your whole thumb and keep it pretty warm, and the cuffs are super long for warmth, but can be folded up as you like.
The construction switches between flat and in-the-round; they are topped with an i-cord bind-off edging, and the thumbs are worked flat, then seamed around. This short thumb seam is the only sewing you’ll do, besides sewing on the buttons.
The stitch pattern is a mistake rib (with 2 stockinette rib stitches on the right side, 1 on the wrong side), for a very textured and stretchy fabric. The only shaping is in the form of a long slit at the cuffs, and the thumb gussets, but they will stretch and mold to comfortably fit your hands and wrists.
