Introducing STEPWISE mitts! The second in the series of stepwise patterns, STEPWISE mitts combines the simplicity of Sequence Knitting and the drama of Intarsia colorwork to produce a stunning color-block wrap.

Knit in a simple garter rib, STEPWISE mitts uses a main color (MC) throughout and a contrasting color (CC), which establishes the simple rib pattern. As the wrap grows, the MC continues to be worked throughout, while the the CC is replaced on by vertical stripes in 7 different colors! This new technique is so much fun to work and, as the new colors are added, it is wonderful to watch the graphic blocking develop!

I had so much fun developing this concept and working with Magpie Fibers to develop a stunning color palette.

A bit intimidated? Head over the the VERSACIKNITS Knitters group, where we will be starting a KAL on February 1st! We will discuss how to think about choosing colors and I will share some of my tricks and techniques for working intarsia and how to work multiple color stripes at the same time! The mitt pattern is a great way to learn the technique before launching into the stunning shawl!

Shown in Magpie Fibers Domestic Fingering in MC: Selkie, CC: Tenderness and colors A-G: Drops of Jupiter, Soiree, 501’s, Norwegian Woods, Mesa, Out of the Blue, and Amber Waves.
