Stargirl Shawl
This was my design was shortlisted for the Unwind Brighton Design Competition- it came a creditable 3rd :-)
there has been some confusion over the cast on. If you go ahead and use the one in the youtube video, you have the option of treating the double yarn sts as either 1 st ( work them together on the next row) or as single sts in which case you will cast on fewer sts in total because every other st will count as two. Personally, I would count the doubled yarn sts as 1 st so as to give extra stretch to the cast on edges.
If you find this all too confusing feel free to substitute any relatively stretchy cast on that you prefer.
Based on traditional Estonian stitch patterns this ethereal lace weight stole was inspired by my daughter who was studying for a Masters degree in Physics with Astrophysics. I wanted something special to wear to her graduation.
The border moves easily into the main body and the second matching border is added at the other end by grafting it on or using a three needle bind off.
There are also beads added using the crochet hook method
Also included as a bonus, is a scarf version that can be made out of 100g skein of your favourite luxury Fingering weight yarn
Oh and the daughter?
Graduated with a First with Hons and is now off doing a PhD in Theoretical Astrophysics and Cosmology - we are so proud!
