A light breezy shawl for day or evening wear, sparkling with beads throughout the shawl, flowing into the border, or just a few beads in the border. The versatile crescent shape can be worn many different ways and is the perfect accessory for those chilly spring days and cool summer nights.

I’ve had a number of questions about the 3into2 stitch, so please see the last two pictures on this page:

  1. picking up the top loop of the first K2T, leaving the new single stitch on right needle, 2 stitches used
  2. knitting that loop together with the next stitch on the left needle through the back loops, 1 more stitch = 3 and 2 stitches left out of the 3 stitches involved.

Yarn requirements as follows:
Large shawl : 480-600 yds
Medium shawl : 450-500 yds
Small shawl : 400-450 yds
Shawlette : 370-400 yds
Lower number is for short tips (end of chart IV) to larger number for long tips (Chart V)
Gauge: In Body Pattern, Chart I – washed, blocked and unpinned = 18sts/4inches
Gauge: Due to the extreme stretchiness of the body pattern, gauge can vary greatly from one person to the next. In order to achieve the measurements and yarn requirements given in the materials section, a gauge of 18sts/4nches, washed, blocked and unpinned, is required. If you have a looser (lower number) gauge, or prefer not to check, just be sure to have plenty of yarn on hand to knit your size of shawl (like 2 skeins). Please be free to modify the pattern, and/or change yarn weights and needle sizes ~ Mostly, have fun and happy knitting!

Advanced beginner skill level makes this shawl a fun way to learn to knit with beads, or just plain for a very quick knit. The pattern includes both charts and written row by row instructions and handy tips provided by some very talented test knitters!
ERRATA: You will need to move your markers 3 stitches to the left between Chart II and Chart III. I apologize for the inconvenience!

Large Shawl: 66” x 21” ~ Medium Shawl: 62” x 20”
Small Shawl: 54-58” x 17-19” ~ Shawlette: 50-52” x 14-15”

Beads are optional and instructions for the crochet hook method are included. 6/0 seed beads are the easiest to use.
20 grams for the Shawlette or beaded border only shawls; 40 grams for full beaded body and border shawls Small to Large sizes
Toho 8/0 seed beads can be used on thinner fingering weight or lace weight yarns. I haven’t figured the requirement for 8/0 beads as there are more beads per gram.

Enjoy!

Note: Make 1’s can be done as follows, if you choose ~ M1R at beginning of row, M1L at end of row where M1 is indicated.
