Spiral Striped Stocking
Free throughout December - no code required.
Come and visit dc2tog to join our ‘Double December CAL’.
The spiral striped stocking is quick and easy to work. It is made from the toe up and uses a very simple heel shaping technique that beginners should find easy to follow.
A flower is included for decoration or you can let your imagination go wild.
The pattern is available in both US and UK terms and uses a special spiral colourwork method (helix or barber pole striping) to avoid visible seams or carrying yarns - this is outlined fully on Page 2.
UK TERMS – Page 3
US TERMS – Page 5
YOU WILL NEED
150 m Aran or Worsted Weight yarn in both main and contrasting colours, a 4.50 mm hook and a needle for neatening ends.
Plain colours work better than self-striping or variegated colourways.
Size when worked in Aran is approximately 18”.
The pattern will adapt easily to other yarns and when worked in DK it measures approximately 15”.
GAUGE
When worked in Aran, I recommend aiming for:
5 rows UK dc (US sc) to 1” when working toe.
7 rows = 4 UK dc (US sc) and 3 UK htr (US hdc) to 5 cm (2”) when working colourwork.
