This triangular, fingering-weight shawl is cast on at the center back neck and worked downwards to the hem. It is shaped with the use of yarn-over increases along a center spine and at the wingspan edges. It is worked with a simple lace pattern, a textured slip-stitch pattern,
and a wide striped lace border featuring leaf motifs.

You will need 2 colors of fingering weight yarn (approximately 435 yards per 100 g) in contrasting colors to knit pattern as written. If choosing to substitute yarns, select one with a good drape and minimal halo. Note that the pattern is presented in CHART FORM ONLY for the lace motifs; no written instructions for the lace are given.

The spindle tree is an upright, rounded shrub with simple oval leaves and has showy pink and orange rounded berries which burst open to reveal orange seeds. The wood of the tree is bright and colorful and was used to make spindles for spinning. This tree
came to represent creative inspiration, initiation of new projects, and blessings on those projects. Medicinally, it can be used for both diuretic and digitalis-like effects.

This shawl is part of the larger Ogham tree club, hosted by The Yarn Guys. Kits are available from their store at www.wallofyarn.com.
