About the socks
This time of the year, I love to wear extra cosy socks and I have just realized that when adding an extra thread of silk mohair to a regular sock yarn, my feet get toasty hot wearing these socks.
Sol Angelica Socks are knitted from toe-up with a gusset and heel-flap to make a good room for the heel. There is some stranded knitting on the foot and just before the cuff.
The pattern is inspired by one of my favourite book series, The Legend of the Ice People by Margit Sandemo.
Yarn and metreage
Two strands of yarn are held together:
- one strand fingering weight sock yarn, e.g. Opal 4-ply 75% wool / 25% polyamide, 420m/100g
- one strand lace weight silk mohair, e.g. Sandnes tynn mohair 57% mohair 28% silk, 15% wool, 212m/25g Metreage: Main Colour, MC: 140 (160, 180, 200) metres of each yarn Contrast Colour, CC, 100 (120, 140, 160) metres of each yarn Remember that metreage can change depending on the length of the foot.
Gauge
26 sts and 35 rounds = 10x10 cm in stocking stitch after blocking.
Normally I would recommend knitting a swatch to ensure your gauge is correct. When knitting socks, the toe can serve as a swatch, just be prepared that you might need to start the toe over again.
Sizes
A (B, C, D) have 40 (48, 56, 72) sts
The sock is designed to have negative ease around the foot of 1-4 cm. The length of the sock is adjustable. The pattern contains many Tips & Tricks about sizing.
