Soil Sweater
Soil Sweater is an easy going but still fashionable sweater that gets its retro but still contemporary look from the color blocks. It’s timeless and might be the base of your wardrobe from now on. The fitting is loose and a little bit boxy so it flatters all bodies, and the design is meant for everyday use: wear the garment with a silky blouse or under a jacket – or be fashionable and wear it under the waist line of your skirt or trousers. The sleeves go just above your wrist, but you can customize them as desired. There’s no ribbing at all in the sweater, so clean and simple lines go with everything!
Soil Sweater is a great way to get rid of your stash: if you don’t have four skeins of one colorway, in smaller sizes just pick up four your favorite skeins that match together and work a cool statement sweater. You can also use a gradient kit and make the sweater go from light to dark or vice versa.
If you use hand-dyed yarns, the best thing in the design is that you don’t need to alternate the skeins after a few rouns! Work the sweater block by block, so if you need more than one skein, just begin the next block from the second skein.

WHAT YOU NEED?
-Yarn: 4 colors of fingering weight yarn (merino singles suggested, such as Lystig Yarn, Hedgehog Fibres, La Bien Aimée), 366 m (400 yds) / 100 g (3,5 oz).
From top to down:
-Color A 1 (1, 2, 2, 2) skeins, 90 (95, 105, 130, 150) g / 3.1 (3.3, 3.7, 4.5, 5.2) oz, 330 (348, 385, 476, 549) m / 360 (380, 420, 520, 600) yds
-Color B 1 (1, 1, 2, 2) skeins, 85 (90, 100, 120, 140) g / 3 (3.1, 3.5, 4.2, 4.9) oz, 312 (330, 366, 440, 513) m / 340 (360, 400, 480, 560) yds
-Color C 1 (1, 1, 2, 2) skeins, 75 (90, 100, 110, 120) g / 2.6 (3.1, 3.5, 3.8, 4.2) oz, 275 (330, 366, 403, 440) m / 300 (360, 400, 440, 480) yds
-Color D 1 (1, 1, 1, 2) skeins, 65 (85, 90, 100, 110) g / 2.2 (3, 3.1, 3.5, 3.8) oz, 238 (312, 330, 366, 403) m / 260 (340, 360, 400, 440) yds
NOTE: All these skein numbers and weights are given on single merino yarn skeins that have 366 g / 100 g. If you use heavier skeins or sock skeins that have more yardage, 1 skein might be enough for some sizes. So see the yardage needed also on meters / yards. Note also that there’s some extra added in these calculations just to be sure you won’t run out of yarn.
