This is a fingering weight stranded colorwork hat, knit in 3 colors, available in 4 sizes, and made to show the world your inner socially awkward (or awesome) penguin.

This hat is knit from the bottom up, beginning with ribbing and transitioning into a stranded colorwork motif, ending in decreases, and topped off by an (optional) pom pom.

Note: Colorwork is charted only.

Skills Required:

Knitting/purling, stranded colorwork knitting, decreases. (Pattern includes a tutorial on managing floats in colorwork.)

Sizing:

Toddler (Child, Adult S/M, Adult L)
Fits head: 18”​ (20”​, ​22”​, 23.5”) in circumference.

Materials:

3 different colors of fingering weight wool yarn.

Example hat uses SweetGeorgia Yarns Tough Love Sock in Frostbite (C1), Dream in Color Smooshy in Torchwood (C2), and madelinetosh Twist Light in Methanol Blue (C3)

C1​: 200 (​210,​ ​230​, ​250​) yds
C2​: 100 (​110​, ​130​,​ ​150​) yds
C3​: 60 (​70,​ ​85,​ 100​) yds

Suggested Needles:

2.75 mm (US 2) needles for the ribbing and 3.23 mm (US 3) needles for the colorwork. Can be knit with either a 16” circular needle and DPNs, or a longer (40”+) circular needle using Magic Loop.
