Worked top-down from a small cast-on, Sketching the Rainbow is a long and somewhat shallow crescent-moon-shaped shawl.

Suitable for any yarn, from cobweb to fingering weight, that knits with good stitch-definition. Not necessarily rainbow yarn! Whilst the shawl was designed for relatively large amounts of yarn, it is possible to work a simple version with as little as 350m/385yds.

The design may be worked entirely in lace, or with a plain yoke. Each of the lace patterns may be repeated as you please, and the first lace omitted if you wish, so the shawl is highly adaptable in size. For moderate amounts of yarn - up to, say, 600m/655yds of laceweight or 700m/765yds of fingering - select one of the two edging-laces; for larger amounts, you can work one or both laces, as you prefer.

. The all-over-lace shawl in gold to turquoise gradient used approx. 101g = 808m/885yds of standard laceweight yarn
. The shawl in rainbow gradient used approx. 82g = 500m/545yds of handspun heavy laceweight yarn
. The plain-yoked shawl in grey-to-white ombré gradient used just under 138g = 690m/755yds of light fingering yarn

Please note that the pattern is given as charts only, with little written explanation. It should present no difficulties to knitters with experience of working lace and the ability to read their stitches, but is not really suitable for beginners.

If you have any problems with the pattern, please pm me and I shall try to help.
