Shirley Temple
Shirley Temple was a request from my daughter, Zoe. She asked for something bright and fun, and just a little bit different.
It’s a classic cabled pullover with a little surprise in back. Bold, textured cables are featured on front and back, and stockinette sleeves contrast with the purl background of the motifs. Faux seams down each side are echoed in the detail at center back, where a few more cables accent the V detail below.
Besides the cables and the V detail, is a an easy knit, featuring simple raglan construction - easy to modify for length or width as desired. Modification notes are added in the pattern, as well as ideas on how to move that that V opening up to flatter a more adult shape or working it closed at back, so you keep the detail and lose the opening all together.
Duck Duck Wool’s bright happy colors are perfect for this - and her superwash merino is soft and warm and easy to care for. Perfect for a kid! I knit my own version of the sweater in her Maker’s Merino - the same lovely yarn, but without the superwash.
Child Sizes:
22(24, 26, 28, 30)” to fit a 4(6, 8, 10, 12) year old.
Adult Sizes:
(32, 34, 36, 38, 40) (42, 44, 46) (48, 50, 52)”
I suggest picking the child size based on her age and the size clothing she usually wears - Old Navy/Gap is a good guide. Zoe is 10, wearing the size 10. For an adult, I would want 2” of ease (based on bust) for a body skimming fit and 4” of ease for a looser silhouette.
Yardage per size:
Child: 650(700,750,800,850)
Adult: (950,1050,1150,1300,1350) (1450,1500,1600) (1700,1750,1800) yards
