While at a holiday market last winter, I fell in love with Monstera dubis. It’s a climbing vine whose heart-shaped leaves lay flat against the surfaces they grow on - it’s often displayed with a wooden plank or stiff mesh in the pot to provide the leaves room to climb; the flat lay of the leaves gives the plant its common name, as they resemble overlapping shingles. It’s toxic to pets, so I can’t have one at home, but I thought its structure and look might lend itself to a nifty botanically-inspired wrap… and the bonus is that your crocheted version will thrive nicely, no matter how unskilled a gardener you might be!
