Shells & Chains Slouchy Beret
This is a slouchy, beret style hat, written for both fingering weight & worsted weight yarn (gauge is the same for both weights of yarn), & available in both a child’s & women’s size.
Only one skein of Knit Picks Palette yarn will make either the child or adult sized hat, & two skeins of Wool of the Andes will be enough to make either version.
Pattern calls for a size F (3.5 mm) crochet hook. I crochet loosely; most crocheters will need to go up a hook size to get gauge
Gauge: 1 shell = 2” in either weight of yarn. Fingering weight version will come out very lacy; worsted weight version will come out more “solid”.
Measurements: child (16-17”) & adult ladies (19”) measured at brim. Hat is very slouchy & is rated an advanced beginner pattern.
Hat is made from the top down, joining after each round & not turning. Hat will look flat, like a doily, until almost the end.
Thanks to CollieGrl64, honeystalks, crochetgammy, birdymom, & daughterofartemis for their test crocheting skills!
