From Butterick’s 1902 Fancy and Practical Knitting, p.59, this simple triangle hardly needs a pattern once you’re knitting the eyelet rows! I revised a number of things in the pattern including blocking the pieces into triangle instead of shells as Butterick intended. You can block your pieces into shells, if you prefer. 4 triangles make one 6” inch square at gauge.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, p2tog, k3tog (on the last 3 stitches) and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
40 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 thread will make a triangle at gauge. 160 yards make a square.
