Sheldon and Leonard
This sideways garter stitch wrap has short-row shaping and a lace edging that is worked as you knit the body. Short rows in the body give a gentle curve at the neck so the shawlette stays put when you wear it.
Sheldon is knit with fingering weight yarn and Leonard is knit with sportweight yarn. Both shawlettes measure approximately 50” along top edge, unblocked and unstretched (the piece stretches out well beyond 60”) and 11.5” deep at the center back
Sheldon uses 400 yards of fingering weight yarn and a U.S. size 3 needle is suggested for a gauge of 5.25 - 5.5 sts/inch.
Leonard uses 350 yards of sportweight yarn and a U.S. size 5 needle is suggested for a gauge of 5 st/inch
The pattern includes instructions for knitting the piece according to the weight of your skein of yarn so you can use the entire skein.
4/26/12 -- I’ve gotten a number of questions asking if the number of pattern repeats for the center section for each version is reversed -- the pattern is correct as written. There are more repeats worked for the sport weight version than the fingering weight version. (Seems like it should be the other way around, I know, but there are fewer repeats worked on each end section for the sport weight version than the fingering weight version so it all evens out!)
