The Seashell Wrap is the August 2024 edition of Club KnitWit! It is available exclusively through the club.

The Seashell wrap I’ve created is meant to evoke a feeling of late summer and airiness. It is a meditative lace pattern that you can easily memorize, and it will knit up quickly on large needles. The cotton yarn is light and soft and should feel cozy next to your skin.

This wrap (or shawl or poncho!) is inspired from the Portland Art Museum’s marble statue The Dead Pearl Diver. My husband Aaron and I love to visit Maine often, and Portland is one of our go-to spots. On our last trip to Portland, I suggested we do something that we haven’t done before and make a trip to the local art museum. We went and spent several hours there. This is one of the many pieces that stuck with me, so after you knit the Seashell Wrap, go visit the museum and take a look at this gorgeous statue!

This piece is one that I would love to bring with me on a summer vacation so I can have just a little something extra to layer on before going out to dinner. It is a garment I would also bring to the beach and use as a coverup. There are tons of options for styling this wrap - play around with it and see what you come up with!

The wrap is worked flat to form a rectangle. Once you have knit and bound off the wrap, you will wash and block it. Then once it is dry, you fold the piece in half (with right side facing out) and seam along the two edges, leaving an opening for the neck.
