Saturnalia Infinity Scarf
Now with instructions for sport or fingering weight yarn!
Saturnalia is knit in the round on the bias, yielding a 7.5”/19cm wide scarf from a 24”/60cm circular needle. The doubled fabric and fine, springy, lofty yarn provide surprising warmth for the weight, while keeping the wrong side hidden from view. This infinity scarf uses a simple yet unusual technique that gives almost invisible increases without leaving a tighter increase edge. Saturnalia starts with a provisional cast on that is grafted to the end stitches using Kitchener stitch for a completely seamless look. The pattern includes instructions for using a regular cast on and seaming the ends, if the thought of grafting sends you screaming from the room. Saturnalia is designed to go twice around the neck; length is adjustable.
You will need:
2 different stitch markers (one for the beginning of the round and one for the middle); yarn needle; scrap yarn for provisional CO.
For fingering weight version: 350 yds/320m Colour A; 420 yds/384m Colour B; 24”/60cm needle size US4/3.5mm (or the size that gets you the correct gauge of 23.5 sts & 30 rows for 4”/10cm)
For sport weight version: 405 yds/370m Colour A; 440 yds/402m Colour B; 24”/60cm needle size US5/3.75mm (or the size that gets you the correct gauge of 22 sts & 28 rows for 4”/10cm)
