Sarum Beanie
This pattern is available from Payhip via the pattern website above and from LoveCrafts here
This hat was inspired by the Prisoners of Conscience stained glass window in Salisbury Cathedral’s Trinity Chapel, designed by Gabriel Loire of Chartres in the 1980s. This informs the lancet shapes, although here they are stacked, and my choice of colour; the stained glass is worked predominantly in striking blues which have an amazing luminosity.
Size is achieved by using different sized needles to obtain a different gauge for each hat.
Small: to fit 17-19 inches, 43-48cm
Worked on 2mm & 2.25mm (US0 & US1) needles to a gauge of 42st x 38 rows = 10x10cm/2.5 x2.5inches
Medium: to fit 19-21 inches, 48.5-53.5cm
Worked on 2.5mm & 2.75mm (US1.5 & US2) needles to a gauge of 38st x 36 rows = 10x10cm/2.5 x2.5 inches
Large: to fit 22-24 inches, 56-61 cm.
Worked on 2.75mm & 3mm (US2 & US2.5) needles to a gauge of 34st x 34 rows = 10x10cm/2.5 x2.5inches
The pattern uses stranded colourwork worked in the round. The yarn quantities given are sufficient for any of the sizes and thus are more generous for the smaller sizes.
