Silk Road

Dusk fades into the night,
We arrive from the east,
Weary travelers in search of a restful nights
sleep.

We pass under archways
As the markets we reach
In this ancient city, full of secrets to keep.

Velvet blue is the sky
Marble minarets gleam,
In the last ray of light from a fading sunbeam.

The air full of spices
Flickering fire through the screens,
Smoke and whispers, dark places,
Scent of gardens unseen.

Worked top down, this generously sized crescent
shaped shawl is worked in lace patterns echoing
arched doorways, intricate filigree screens on gates
and windows and carved facades on slender minarets,
towering over age old markets full of exotic
smells and sounds.
