Introducing the Rujuu Sweater, the third Mystery Yokalong and a stash-busting adventure! This design features geometric stranded colourwork with some playful slip-stitch techniques to keep things interesting and a little mysterious.

Starting January 16th, 2026, you’ll receive 7 weekly clues that gradually reveal the full design like unwrapping a fun surprise every week. Each clue will be sent directly to your Ravelry inbox and email, complete with detailed, step-by-step instructions. In addition, you’ll get access to video tutorials packed with helpful tips and techniques to guide you through the process.

This year, we’re working with a slightly thicker yarn weight to give you more flexibility for using up leftover yarn or single skeins. That way you can combine different weights to achieve a worsted-equivalent gauge. And if you prefer a drapier fabric, DK weight works well, too! Check out this video for a deeper dive into how to select and combine colours across the 4 categories: https://go.zaneteknits.com/myal3-prep

You’ll also get to choose between making a pullover or a steeked cardigan; both options are included in the pattern!

The best part is the community! Join other knitters to share progress, ask questions, and celebrate your creations. Like last year, we’ll host the knitalong on our Skool platform, where all your video tutorials will live in a course format after the first clue comes out. It’s free to join, and you can jump in at any time. For those who prefer Ravelry, we will have a forum thread going, too, but most of the fun will happen on Skool.

And don’t forget to share your progress on social media using the hashtags #rujuusweater or #myal3! (P.S. we’re not doing spoiler alerts this year so you can freely share your WIPs wherever and whenever you like)

We’re so excited to knit alongside you and create another unforgettable experience!

NOTE: There should be strong contrast between A and C, and some contrast between B and C.
Colour D is only used for the hem, cuffs, neckband, and button bands. It can match any of the colours A, B, or C, or be a completely different colour.
Colour-changing yarns are best paired with neutrals and you should ensure that the necessary contrast exists throughout the entire skein.

Some of the yarns used in sample (size 2) are:
Colour Category A:

  • Pascuali Saffira in Taupe held double (2 balls)
  • Cascade Heritage 4ply held with Camellia FiberCo. Suri Lace, less than a skein each

Colour Category B:

  • Vidalana Ambient Worsted in DaVinci (1 skein)

  • The Yarn Collective Portland Lace in Keeping Bees, 4 strands held together

Colour Category C:

  • Spincycle Yarns Dream State in Absolute Zero (Just over 1 skein)
  • Spincycle Yarns Dyed In the Wool in Bruised Ego held with Malabrigo Ultimate Sock in Pearl Ten (less than a skein each)

Colour Category D: Julie Asselin Journey Sport in Ruisseau (just over 1 skein) held with Debonnaire Yarns Shimmer Lace in Silver Grey (less than a skein)

Suggested needles:

  • 4 mm (US 6) or needle size required to obtain gauge. These should be circulars 60-100 cm / 24-40” long.
  • 3.5 mm (US 4) or a couple sizes smaller than gauge needles for the neckband and button bands. These should be circulars 40-60 cm / 16-24” long.

Notions: Stitch markers, locking stitch markers and/or bobby pins if using Japanese short rows, row counter, stitch holder or waste yarn, tapestry needle, spare circular needle in smaller size.

For the cardigan option: crochet hook in smaller size, sticky/wooly yarn for securing the steek, sharp scissors, 6-8 20-25 mm / ¾-1” buttons.
If working with slippery yarns, 25 mm / 1” wide ribbon for securing steek, a few dressmaking pins (or regular pins), thread that matches the ribbon colour, and a sewing needle.

Techniques used: Knitting in the round, short rows, slip stitches, stranded colourwork, increases, steeking (if working cardigan option).

Notes: The sweater is worked seamlessly in the round from the top down. The cardigan option is worked the same way as sweater, and includes a steek that is later secured and cut with button bands added to finish.
