Rosa Rugosa has been grown in China at least since 11th century. It was brought to Europe by British nursery Lee & Kennedy in the end of 18th century and has since been widely grown all over Europe.

The pattern is written for magic loop, but can easily be modified for double pointed needles. Needle A refers to instep stitches and needle B to sole stitches.

The sample sock was knitted toe up, on cuff down version the pattern is slightly different due the nature of lace knitting. If you want the pattern to be exactly like on the pictured sock, you can use the toe up pattern but note that the pattern will be then upside down.

Yarn:

100 g of fingering weight yarn, app. 420 m (440 yds)/100g. The sample socks were knitted with Frau Odersocke sockenwolle in colourway Bordeaux, 210m/230 yds per 50g.

Needles etc:

80 cm/ 32 inches long or longer 2.75 mm/ US 2 circular needle or to meet the gauge
tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:

36 sts x 48 rows = 10 x 10 cm/ 4 x 4 inches in stockinette stitch after blocking.
