For a trip I was planning, I wanted a triangular shawl that was slightly more generous in its angles and had very little openwork. The original was knit at a very dense gauge using sport weight yarn (to meet my ‘travel tough’ needs). This pattern offers versions in fingering and heavy laceweight that are a similar finished size, but knit at more typical gauges for an airier effect.

It uses either one skein of fingering yarn, a 3.25mm/US #3 needle, and gauge of 22 st/ 32 r = 10cm/4” in stockinette stitch, flat OR
550m/600yd of heavy laceweight, a 2.75mm/US #2 needle, and gauge of 27 st/ 40 r = 10cm/4” in stockinette stitch, flat.

The structure is the common top-down triangle, and a slightly exaggerated (but symmetrical) rate of increase causes a shape that wraps and drapes well. The grey version is knit in A Verb For Keeping Warm’s “Creating”, and the green version is knit in two skeins of Cephalopod Yarn’s “Nautilace”.

I really enjoy the textures in this shawl, and the minimal openwork means that the finished shawl is fairly resistant to snags. Ideal for however you travel - planes, trains, automobiles, boats, bicycles, and horseback!
