A Crochet Pattern For A Tote Bag Made With Overlay Mosaic Crochet Technique
The Ripple Pop Tote is everything you love about mosaic crochet wrapped into a bold, ripple-effect tote bag.
You’ll build it from the bottom up in joined rounds, working only on the right side and alternating two colors to make those waves “pop” against a sleek black background.
The finished bag measures about 49 cm wide by 52 cm tall if you stick with the recommended hook and yarn, but you can easily tweak it to fit your needs.
Each round starts with a chain-1 (which doesn’t count as a stitch) and is worked entirely in one color.
On your chart, empty squares mean single crochets in the back loop only, and “X” squares mean drop-down double crochets worked two rounds below through the front loop only.
Finish every mosaic round by slip-stitching into the first stitch’s back loop of the next color—this clever move carries your yarn without ever having to cut.
If you need a narrower tote, simply work fewer repeats of the 12-stitch motif around; for extra height, skip a few rounds or, to keep the pattern flowing perfectly, repeat rounds 3–8 after you complete round 8.
To keep your edges neat when a round both starts and ends with a double crochet, insert your hook twice, once into the last stitch and then into the very first stitch before yarning over on that last stitch—it locks everything into a tidy frame.
