Renate’s Shawl is designed for a very special friend who appreciates the tradition and beauty of knit shawls and, most importantly, wears them with flair!

Renate’s Shawl is the first design in a series of “Beaded Heirloom Shawls”, an ebook now available on Ravelry.

She is a haapsalu style triangular shawl using estonian stitches and knit from the bottom up, starting with the edging. My intention for an “updated” look to a traditional style is to use bright colors and beads in place of the traditional nupps. However, nupps can always be substituted but you’ll need to add 25% more yarn to the requirements!

You can use cobweb, single ply, 2-ply or a heavier lace such as Wollmeise Lace-Garn. Instructions are provided to accommodate the differences.

Written instructions for row 9 are correct.

Handy tip by one of our testers:
Move the markers on Row 27 1 stitch to the right to help keep track of the 3into3 stitches on row 29.
