A mixture of kurenai (scarlet pink) and ki (pure yellow), this clear, warm mango color fi ts the Japanese color palette for late spring and summer. Yukata is a bathrobe or a casual kimono to wear at home. Th e velvety soft texture of cotton chenille worked in an easy chevron lace pattern makes an exquisite full length kimono that will find its way out the door to a special event.

I designed this piece with a square neckline that is closed with an unusual ceramic button and a simple knitted cord button loop. The garter stitch neckband is an adventure, with some of the band attached to the garment as it is knitted and some seamed onto the garment afterward (to measure accurately, count the garter ridges). Stockinette stitch sleeves with garter stitch cuffs are a visual relief from all the texture and detail.
