Rail Bear Bonnet
Baby Bear Garter Bonnet is a beginner-friendly hat with cute little bear ears worked back and forth in garter stitch. You start working the ribbed face band before shaping the top crown, ears and the back crown with simple increases and decreases. Next, you work the ties and back neckband in garter stitch before finishing the bonnet by seaming up the ears and back crown.
Sizes: 1 (3, 6, 9, 12-18, 24) months, to fit head circumference: approx. 33-37 (36-40, 39-44, 43-46, 46-49, 49-51) cm 13-14½ (14¼-15¾, 15¼-17¼, 17-18, 18-19¼, 19¼-20)”
Yarn: 1 strand of Knitting for Olive Merino (250 m 273 yd / 50 g 1.8 oz), fingering-weight yarn,
1 ball + either 1 strand of Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair (225 m 246 yd / 25 g 0.9 oz), laceweight yarn, 1 ball, or 1 strand of Knitting for Olive Compatible Cashmere (150 m 164 yd / 25 g
0.9 oz), lace-weight yarn, 1 ball. Sample is in Merino in Marzipan colorway + Compatible Cashmere in Nordic Beach colorway.
Needles: 3.5 mm / US4 circular needles, or in size to obtain gauge
Gauge (after blocking): 22 sts and 44 rows = 10 cm 4” in garter stitch with 3.5 mm / US4
needles and 2 strands held together
