This is a classic top-down, raglan-sleeve cardigan designed for worsted weight yarn worked flat on US size 5 and 8 needles. Front and neckband is picked up and worked in ribbing after the body is completed.

The adult pattern is Bernat style no. 494-130; the child pattern is Bernat style no. 5075-130.

Yardage requirements are 520-650 for the child sizes and 1,040-1,170 for the adult pattern. The largest adult size is worked on 203 stitches for the body (below the armholes). At the specified gauge this will be just about 40” before adding the front band; smaller than we would expect today for a women’s large.

The child’s sweater requires 5 buttons; the adult sweater requires 6.
