A simple and beautiful scarf that works equally well around the neck or as a
headpiece. Suitable for almost any needle size and yarn.

Construction
Knit from tip to tip in a wide rib stitch pattern of 3x3 knit and purl. The increases and decreases occur in the center rib section. You can knit to your desired length before binding off.

Size Guide
If you want the scarf to wrap once around the neck, 120 cm (approximately 47 inches) is a good length. For an extra wrap around, add 50 cm (approximately 20 inches). You can adjust the width by increasing more frequently to make the scarf very wide or by adding fewer increases for a narrower, more elegant tie-like look.

Adjusting the Pattern
The scarf shown in the picture wraps once around the neck. You can, however, add more increases to make it long enough to wrap multiple times. When you start decreasing, you’ve reached the halfway point, making it easy to gauge both yarn usage and length.
Note: If you want the length as shown, you’re halfway at 61 cm (approximately 24 inches).

Here are some tips to customize the pattern to make the scarf exactly as you’d like:

General Tip
Use the needle size recommended for the yarn you’re using.
Thinner Needles
If you choose thinner needles, the scarf will be narrower. You’ll also have more frequent increases and decreases due to the denser rows. If you want a wider scarf, keep the increases/decreases as they are and add extra ones as needed.

Thicker Needles
If you choose thicker needles, the scarf will be wider. The distance between increases and decreases will also be longer because of the less dense rows.

Longer Scarf
Knit to your desired length before starting the decreases.

Wider Scarf
Add more increases. You may need to add them with fewer rows in between, especially if using thicker needles and if you don’t want the scarf to be too long.
