Quadro Shrug
Skill level: Advanced Intermediate
Finished Measurements: Approximately 18” (45.5cm) wide at center back x 12½“ (32cm) wide at arm x 54 (58, 62)” (137 147, 157.5cm) from wrist to wrist
This lace rectangle can be worn as a scarf if left unbuttoned, or you can button each arm into a cylinder to create a shrug. Worked from the center out, you’ll first knit a square of double-sided lace in the round for the back. Then each “arm” is created by working a flat lace panel from the center. It’s simple shaping, but gives dramatic, convertible, and wearable results!
I have a bit of an obsession with lace designs that grow from the center out. The trouble is, this method creates a square or a circle, but this time I wanted a rectangle. I sketched, swatched, then pondered. I decided to work a lace square, and then riff off the stitch pattern on opposite sides to turn my square into a rectangle. It is so gratifying when my ideas actually work!
