Worked in two coloured brioche, this crescent shaped shawl starts with a simple body followed by a more detailed border. The shawl is resizable by changing either the size of the body or the number of repeats of the border.

To me the border motif looks like feathers, so I named the shawl ‘plumology’, meaning the study of feathers.

The pattern has both written instructions and charts. Detailed descriptions and a photo tutorial of the more unusual stitches are also included.

Materials:
• Fingering or light fingering weight yarn in two colours, MC and CC, approximately 450m (500yds) of each.
• 3.5mm/US 4 circular needles with a 80cm/32” or longer cable.
• Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Size of finished shawl:
Length 240cm/94.5”, width 65cm/25.5”, relaxed after blocking.

Gauge:
Obtaining gauge is not essential, as long as you are happy with the fabric you are getting. However, different gauge will affect the size of the finished object and the amount of yarn used.

The sample shawl had a gauge of 15 stitches and 25 rows in brioche rib in a 10cm x 10cm (4” x 4”) square, after blocking.
