Released in 1959, Sleeping Beauty was based on a seventeenth-century fairy tale by Charles Perrault. Walt Disney mostly kept faithful to the original story line in his adaptation save for one big difference: He pared the good fairies down from the original seven to three. According to one story, there was a disagreement in the animation studio on what color Princess Aurora’s gown should be—pink or blue. This squabble was ultimately written into the script as an ongoing argument between good fairies Flora and Merryweather and their favorite colors. The result is one of the most enchanting and memorable scenes in the film, when Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip celebrate their happiness by dancing in the clouds, her gown magically changing back and forth from pink to blue.

Pink or blue? This double-sided stranded colorwork headband with magical sparkle motifs allows you to pick whichever main color you’re in the mood for! Beginning with a long tail cast on, the headband is worked in the round with the colors inverted at the halfway point. The stitches are bound off, then grafted together to form a seamless join, making for a double-thick, extra-warm headband suitable for royalty.
