Pauline
An ideal project to use up your Lopi yarn leftovers. This pattern gives you a method to design your very own colour feast. Inspired by the first “lopapeysas”, their Greenland influence and the 70s ☺ An Icelandic yoke sweater/cardigan with a modern fit: the back edge curves down and is longer than the front edge, the body is fitted (optional), a cozy hood (optional) to give extra warmth: even when not on your head, it makes a protective collar. Traditionally worn with a lot of ease, I would recommend 10cm ease for this chunky sweater. The cardigan could be worn with less.
Method:
Body and sleeves are worked in the round from lower edge to the underarms, and then joined to work yoke in the round. Stranded knitting.
Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL
Circumference of body/ chest: 95, (101, 106, 111, 117) cm / 37.5”, (39.5”, 42”, 44”, 46”) inches.
Circumference middle of body shaping: 86, (92, 99, 102, 108) cm / 34” (36”, 39”, 40”, 42.5”) inches.
Sleeve length: 46, (47, 48,49, 50) cm / 18”, (18.5”, 19”, 19.5”, 20”) inches
Length of body under arm: 38 (40, 42, 42, 44) cm / 15”, (16”, 16.5”, 16.5”, 17”) inches
Gauge:
13 sts and 18 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches measured using larger needles.
Material: LEFTOVERS!!!
Alafoss Lopi (100gr = 100m) and/or
Létt Lopi : held double and/or
Plötulopi : three strands together
Total weight approx.: 800gr, for size L (good to have ample so you can play with the design a bit).
• Circular needles nr. 4,5mm and 6 mm, 80cm and 40cm/ US 7 and US10, 32” and 16”
Check gauge and adjust needle size if necessary.
• Double pointed needles 6 mm and 4,5mm to knit sleeves in the round (if not using magic loop technique).
• Any bit of contrasting yarn to use as markers.
• stitch holders, spare circular needles or length of yarn to park under arm stitches.
