Parisienne in brioche
A simple start, unusual oversized shape (but you can choose between two depths), with an attractive mandala crown. It gives an elegant, romantic, retro look and can be worn as a beret or slouchy hat, completely reversible. You have written pattern (in English), “stitch by stitch” photo & video tutorials. The crown requires good knitting skills and concentration. This hat is made in the round, from the bottom up. If you really want, you can learn a lot from this pattern…
You need:
1. Skills: Intermediate 2 color brioche and double
knitting knowledge; knitting in the round;
2. Needles:
* 16” (40cm) circular needle in US 4/3,5mm and
necessarily US 3/3,25mm (even 3 mm for smaller
head) for brim, for head circumference 56-59cm (less
than 60cm/24”), to be satisfied with the results!
End don’t knit to loose.
* US 4/3,5mm DPN’s (4+1 double pointed needles);
* 2 cable needles (or two wooden DPN’s);
* (2) tapestry needle(s) for weaving in ends;
3. Yarn: You need 2 balls (1 light, 1 dark) sport weight
woolen yarn, no thicker then 100g/280m (~307 yds),
in favorite color combination; hat on photos, deeper
version - normal women’s size (XL), for head
circumference 56-59cm / 22,4”-23,6” (1cm=2,5”),
is made with approx. 2x60gr Alize superlana Klasik
(280m~307yds/100gr) woolen yarn, in almond and
shaded brown;
4. Clover locking stitch markers – 14 (13+1) pcs.
SIZE – one size, but depends on the thickness of the needle; the brim carries the entire hat, with possibility of two depths – fabric is elastic enough (1”=2,5cm):
Depth – in two versions: a) 24cm/9,6” or b) 27cm/10,8” (hat on photos); maybe c) how long you want
Circumference:
– brim is very elastic: 45cm/18”(needle 3 mm);
I recommend 49cm/19,6”(needle 3,25mm);
52cm/20,8”(needle 3,5mm)
- brioche part max.100cm/40”(needle 3,5mm);
max.diameter 32cm for the deeper version;
Gauge (3.5mm needles): in fixed brioche stitches: 24 sts/24 rows = 4”x4” = 10x10cm (1 row consists of 1 row of MC and 1 row of CC yarn).
