One of my favorite travel destinations was a trip to the Venezuelan Amazon in the 1990s. Among the plethora of highlights was hiking along the bottom of the Orinoco River among the giant boulders during the dry season. During the wet season, these awesome wonders are completely submerged by the water.

The textures created by the cables in this shrug reminded me of the gorgeous riverbed landscape. The pattern includes instructions to work a long-sleeved or a three-quarter sleeved shrug, and instructions for the optional border.

Sample shown worked in Size S with border and ¾ sleeves with Frog Tree Meriboo (70% merino wool, 30% bamboo; 105 yds/ 96 m; 1.75 oz/ 50 g); color: 304, 8 balls.
