ERRATA: Pattern details say to use 3.25 mm circulars or 5mm dpns- this should say 3.25mm dpns. Corrected pattern on its way soon.
Taking its inspiration from the bold geometric motifs found in mid-century textile and ceramic homewares, this set gives the options of a slouch beanie or folded brim bobble hat and matching long mitts with shaped thumb. Using a smaller than usual needle for the yarn and stranded colourwork gives extra warmth and crisp contrasts.
Skills required: tubular cast on (optional), knitting in the round, stranded colourwork, reading a colourwork chart.
You will need:
1-2 skeins Kate Davies Buachaille in MC (samples use colourway Haar for Bobble hat and Squall for Beanie)
1-2 skeins Kate Davies Buachaille in CC (samples use colourway Hedder for Bobble hat and Furze for Beanie)
Yarn requirements for different combinations:
Beanie: 1 skein MC, 1 skein CC (1 skein MC, 1 skein CC)
Bobble: 2 skeins MC, 1 skein CC (2 skeins MC, 1 skein CC)
Mitts: 1 skein MC, 1 skein CC (1 skein MC, 1 skein CC)
Bobble & mitts: 3 skeins MC, 2 skeins CC (3 skeins MC, 2 skeins CC)
Beanie & mitts: 2 skeins MC, 2 skeins CC (2 skeins MC, 2 skeins CC)*
Hat sizing: S/M: 52cm circumference (to fit 56-58cm) M/L: 57 cm circumference (to fit 59-61cm)
Mitt sizing: S/M 18cm circumference (to find palm circumference 18-20cm) M/L 20cm circumference (to fit palm circumference 20-22cm)
Notes on fit: Sample shown is the S/M hat size worn by model with head
circumference of 57cm and S/M mitt size worn by model with hand circumference 18cm, wrist circumference 15cm and mid-forearm circumference 19cm.
ERRATA. Early version of pattern states in the Mitt instructions section;
Complete chart rounds 1-18 once, then rounds 1-10 once.
This should read
Complete chart rounds 1-18 once, then rounds 1-9 once.
