Nunna

Youngest of my sons loves bright colours. He is constantly building things. Because it reminds me so much of colourful building blocks, I called this blanket the nickname he used to call himself — Nunna.
I have designed an entrelac blanket with an unusual approach — instead of working identically sized squares, I composed a pattern of rectangles and squares in 2 different sizes. The inspiration comes from Latvian textile tradition.
The blanket starts in one corner with one square and ends in the opposite corner. The sizes of blocks and blanket itself are highly adaptable as you work depending on the yarn of your choice and intended recipient. You may also choose the end shape of it — square or rectangle.
This is the simplest of my multi-shape entrelac patterns. I recommend starting with this, before trying the other patterns I have designed using this technique. There is also a shawl pattern with this geometry, called Emma. If you wish to knit something similar but more challenging, look for my Lille or Krisse blankets and Anne shawl.
