Nouchali
When I began thinking about this project, I knew that I wanted to create a pullover with bits of pretty openwork and I started to work on ideas for the lace yoke. Inspired by aquatic plants that flourish in warm summer weather, I designed this botanical lace based on the fascinating geometry of waterlilies. Interestingly, this is also where this pullover got its name: Nouchali is a species of a lotus plant known for its spectacular blue flowers.
Body is worked in rounds from the top down with seamless circular yoke shaping (lace is charted and written out). After the yoke is finished, sleeve stitches are placed on waste yarn, and body is worked straight to the bottom, ending with a split rib edge. Sleeves are then picked up from the live stitches and shaped with decreases, followed by a rib edging. Finally, the crewneck is finished with a few rounds of ribbing.
