Norppa is a basic top down sweater which plays with helix striping and garter stitch edges.

The body is straight and long enough to cover you when cycling, sailing or wandering in the nature. The body ends up in a split hem. The garter stitch flaps overlap on the sides, and the back flap is slightly longer than the front flap. Sleeves are quite fitting and you can roll them up when needed. You can fold the collar to protect your neck or leave it open for a more casula look.

The sweater is knitted in stockinette. The helix knitting places the seams evenly on both sides of the body. A close look reveals the striping but from distance the colours blend together, creating a smooth surface.

Norppa is the rare and protected Saimaa ring seal which lives in Lake Saimaa in Eastern Finland.

Notions: Two 25 mm buttons. Handmade ceramic Norppa buttons by Haniart were used for the sample.
Tapestry needle, waste yarn/stitch holders, stitch markers.

Gauge: 24 sts ja 30 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette with #2,5/3,0 mm] needles, blocked.

Norppa on ylhäältä alas neulottava miesten peruspaita, jonka jujuna ovat helix- eli spiraalitekniikalla neulottava raidoitus sekä ainaoikein-neuleella neulotut kaulus, hihansuut ja helma.

Paidan vartalo-osassa ei ole muotoiluja, ja se on riittävän pitkä suojaamaan ulkoillessa. Paidan helma on pidempi takaa. Hihat ovat istuvat ja hihansuut melko tiukat, jotta ne suojaavat hyvin. Pitkät hihansuut voi kääriä, jos ne haittaavat puuhailua. Kauluksen voi taittaa suojaamaan kaulaa ja niskaa tai kauluksen napit voi jättää rennosti auki.

Paita neulotaan sileänä neuleena. Spiraalitekniikan ansiosta sivusaumat muodostuvat vartalon molemmille puolille. Läheltä raidoitus hahmottuu, mutta kauempaa katsottuna värit sulautuvat toisiinsa muodostaen elävän tasaisen pinnan.

Tiheys: 24 s ja 30 krs = 10 cm sileää neuletta 3,0 mm puikoilla, kasteltuna ja pingotettuna.
