Originally designed as for the October installment of the Yarnover Truck Yarn Club, Naranj (the Arabic word that gave rise to our orange) is a shawl-cowl hybrid designed with autumn in mind. Constructed like a semi-circular shawl but worked mostly in the round, Naraj appears to be a shawlette bunched around the neck except without ends to come untied. Naraj utilizes a simple chevron lace pattern with interspersed bands of garter stitch to show off the colors in a stunning colorway of Space Cadet yarn. Subtle points grow out of the chevron pattern to finish the piece off. Naraj is a great pattern for that special skein of fingering weight yarn you’ve been dying to use – simple, quick, and perfect for warding off the autumnal chill.

Specific yarn requirements:
Space Cadet Yarn Aurora (70% Superwash Merino Wool, 20% Cashmere, 10% Nylon; 350 yds/ 320 m per 100g); 1 skein in Orange
Or, 300 yds/ 275 m of fingering weight yarn

Needles:
US 6 (4 mm) circular needle, 16-24”/ 40-60 cm long, or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge:
18 sts & 27 rows = 4”/ 10 cm in Chevron Lace pattern, blocked
Meeting this exact gauge is not crucial, but any major differences will affect the size of the finished cowl as well as yarn requirements.

Errata:
1 Nov, 2016: Rnd 3 of the Chevron Lace Pattern in the round should direct the knitter to replace the slipped st on the left hand needle, not the right. Updated in v2 of the pattern.
