My First Socks is an ideal pattern for trying your hand at first-time sock knitting.
The beauty of this pattern is that you literally just knit a tube, then you do the shaping for the toe and heel at the end.
It allows for you to establish a continuous flow with the rhythmic sequence of Stockinette stitch, while at the same time coming to grips with the Magic Loop method.
A scrap piece of yarn is inserted where the heel is to be. Then you just blissfully continue to knit until you reach the end of the foot.
A few simple decreases and voila! you have the toe.
Once the toe is completed, creating a pointed tube, you go back and insert the afterthought heel. The perfect handbag project - you can pull it out anywhere to enjoy the simple knitting and then deal with the trickier bits at the end when you have a quieter moment or two.
