Moth Cardigan
Finished Measurements
Sized to fit a 30–40 (35–50, 50–65)“ bust.
20 (22, 24)“ across back at underarm
29” from right front cast on to right neck edge.
Shown on a 36” chest
The sizing is generous and the fronts do not meet at the center. The middle size fits nearly everybody, of any shape, or size. But not everyone likes the same amount of ease and so this is available in 3 sizes.
The Moth is constructed in two pieces and worked with an allover Fisherman’s rib. It begins at the right front hem, which is shaped with short rows. The sides are shaped with increases, then stitches are cast on for the sleeves. Beginning with the sleeve back, increases are worked to produce a biased fabric. The work flows over the shoulder to the back the back is worked on the bias.
The Left and right halves are joined down the center back with an exposed 3-needle bind off. Stitches for the back hem are picked up and worked down and the front/neck edge is finished with an applied I-cord.
The sleeve edges do not require finishing but if you preferred to have a longer sleeve, a 1x1 rib cuff could be added.
All instructions for the left and right halves are written out. There are no charts. The schematic and the work are marked with points 1f (front), 2f, 3f, 3b (back), 2b, 1b to make it easier to match points for seaming the sides.
